DS emulation is one of the few times where I feel like I HAVE to improve the image in some way; the resolution is horse shit for all the 3D it tries to show, leaving you with distant objects as a few pixels that can't retain their shape and lines on terrain that shimmer as you move.

It's such low-res 3D that the ordinary magnification filters on their own are really really bad at mitigating those problems (sometimes making them worse), but yesterday someone in emulation general figured out how to get Desmume to turn on multisampling in its OpenGL 3D mode, which in turn is enough to get the regular filtering options to actually improve its 3D shapes. So I've been using that and playing DS games again; I can actually get the 3D looking nonawful now.
