ITT: consoles and games that aren’t perfect and have clear issues, but that you love anyway. For me it’s the Saturn. Yeah the library is mixed and skewed heavily towards Japanese menu games, the graphics aren’t the best when it comes to 3D, the mesh transparencies are pretty laughable and it lacked the triple A high quality shit that the PlayStation was dishing out, but I can’t help but love it anyway. The controller is brilliant, the library is full of hidden gems and obscure greats, the library is crammed full of unique and off the wall shit, its arcade ports are basically perfect and that design is sexy as fuck. Same with the Dreamcast and its high quality library that was snuffed out to early.

How come they weren't any game released on cartridges on the Saturn, the cartridge port seemed to be used just for memory and ram expansions.

Pic related.

I wish I had an excuse to buy one, but at a casual glance, looks like Saturn has nothing to offer that my PSX and DC don't cover. Please prove me wrong /vr/.

>playing Biohazard (Resident Evil) on my Japanese Sega Saturn
>about 30 minutes in I notice the load times getting longer and longer within a span of about 10 minutes
>finally, enter the hall with the dogs for the third time, and I just get a blank screen with the music
>no choice but to turn it off (I was playing a no-save run)
>put in another game and it seems to play just fine
>come to /vr/, notice that there's no repair thread up, so I make this thread

Is my Saturn about to RIP or what? The disc is scratchless with no disc rot.

Can someone redpill me on the Saturn?

I'm a big pc engine fan. Is the Saturn truly similar or is it a meme console that's inferior to the ps1. What's the truth?

Some of the games are crazy expensive but I'm fine with repros/CD-R's. Here's some games I'm looking at

>Liquid Kids
>Policenauts (english)
>Nights
>Elevator Action Returns
>Rayforce
>Super Tempo (by the Bonk creators)
>Saturn Bomberman
>Ys I, and Ys II ports
>Symphony of the night (new areas/Maria)
>Outrun

Any other recommendations? Also is Megaman X4 better or worse on Saturn? I can't find any consensus?

Saturn D-pad.
It's pretty damn good. Been playing a big 'ol stack of Saturn games for the last week or two now that I have a working Saturn again and I'm continually reminded of why I love the d-pad. Only real issue with the controller is the mildly shitty L/R triggers.
the other D-pad I really like is the Vita's (very nice feeling, easy diagonals), I'm still fucking mad the PS4 pad doesn't use it

the worst ones I've used are the 360 (I've gotten some ludicrous inputs playing fighting games with it), the PS2 (diagonals don't fucking happen), and the PSP-1000 (diagonals absolutely never happen)

Really? I've got a DC pad I bought new in box in 2012 and I can't stand the d-pad on that thing. Can barely attempt to play KOF with the thing, and it's just this small, rock-hard thing that's mildly awkwardly placed.
only thing I like about the DC controller is that it looks cool as fuck

Is there any point in owning a Saturn if you don't like fighting games or shmups?

So somehow I've found a working and actually good Saturn emulator so it's time to play some good stuff.

Right now I only have Astal, Segata's game and Rockman 8, what other stuff SHOULD I play on this?

Also, Saturn thread.

Fact: Saturn is the only system worth buying

the entire libary of all other systems can be played through ports, remakes, or emulation

prove me wrong

I'm thinking about picking up a Saturn but I was a PS1 kid. I only had 1 neighbor with a Saturn and I remember it being pretty impressive.

Anyways, I know next to nothing about the console itself. I plan on playing on an HD TV, if I don't mind how my PS1 games look on my TV, will I find Saturn games to look terrible? Especially worried about the 2D games looking bad because the Saturn seems to have a lot of good 2D games.

Second, I plan on getting some Japanese imports because there was only a handful of games that came Stateside. Is the Saturn region-free?

Third, what's the difference between model 1 and model 2?

Thanks, guys.

Hey guys I'm looking at getting a Saturn and have a question.
The model I'm looking at specifically is a white Japanese Saturn to be used with an action replay. If I get that will it display properly on American televisions, or is there anything else I would need to do?

Also, that feel when looking at game prices...

Dreamcast doesn't look great, I agree with you on that. But I love this design. The black line, and the uber sexy "Sega Saturn" on the top, which contrasts so well with the rest of the console.

Thinking of buying a cheap white japanese Saturn over here in Australia (PAL). I have a TV that will take a NTSC signal. What should I be mindful of if I want to mod chip it? Is it easy to install into one of the white ones?

There's also the JP Model 2, which is white. The V Saturn and Hi Saturn also had different colors IIRC.

If you go for the PAL Saturn option you will either need to install a 50/60Hz switch/universal BIOS chip, or a 50/60Hz switch/Action Replay 4-in-1.(second option means not being able to use ingame saving with the memory cartridge)

so i just bought a modded JP saturn and some of the backups I've burned, namely Battle Garegga and DoDonpachi, have no music during gameplay, sound fx and all that, just no music. Others games like Radiant Silvergun work fine across the board, any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Burnt with Alcohol 120% if that matters

Help me buy a white Sega saturn!

All the ones I see are super yellowed and ones that are not have really high price+shipping

Is there anyhting I could do to get rid of the yellow, or just keep looking for a clean one
