It is true though, OP only asked for thoughts.

I have not tried that, as the OSSC to me is meant for 480P output (or off-spec 720P for line triple 240P, line double 480P to even more off spec 960P is even weirder). Line doubling 240P or deinterlacing 480i the OSSC already outputs a very clean 480P. If you send that through a framemister to process, that just adds back in the 1.5 frames of lag for framebuffer to scale (if you want a 720P or 1080P output, in that case you may as well just send the signal directly to the framemeister) or you can just set the framemeister HDMI port to pass through which means nothing as it just sends the same 480P signal from the OSSC to the display as if the framemeister was not there. I have not tried that DVDO scaler which is said to be lag free as well so pairing it with the OSSC may be the best option if you are outputting to a digital display. Alas, the DVDO scaler is a luxury I cannot afford and I primarily have CRTs. I will say the OSSC essentially does make the XRGB2 outdated and unnecessary (unless you have some really obscure arcade PCBs, then the XRGB2 may still have that slight edge there, again I cannot verify as I'm too poor to have any arcade boards).

The 3.5mm jack is right next to the DVI output. The jack outputs stereo which you can use those cables which are 3.5mm to Phono (RCA) red+white connectors for plugging into your sound system. As >>3699525 stated, it only outputs the audio from the Euro SCART input, as the component and VGA inputs do not take in any audio.

>>3699535
Here in the USA, most TVs I see in stores assume the HDMI carries the audio (as well as video, data, handshake signals).

>>3699539
I saw in a recent newsletter, videogameperfection is offering the new audio board to be installed for the next batch. Also it will be even cheaper for those not in the EU, a shame as I would have wanted that too but it goes with the territory of being an early adopter.

Everyone's situation is different.

>I understand spending spare cash on original consoles.
I'm poor as hell but I kept almost all my old games, as did my cousins which gave their stuff to me as gifts.

>I understand collecting, for whatever reason you may have to want the original games.
I didn't collect, I just ended out with a decent sized library because I can get more fun out of the games than the $5 at best per game a store would give me.

>I understand wanting to go the flash cart route instead because games are not cheap anymore.
I cannot afford any everdrives at the moment, but I already do have a decent percentage of the games I want for all the systems I own.

>I understand keeping CRTs around and hunting down nice RGB monitors for the benefits they bring.
I didn't have a TV, so I needed to use my PC monitors as my screen for videogames, and RGB+XRGB2 was the solution back then. I still am currently using a CRT monitor because I cannot afford getting new modern displays (it is a heavy beast, but widescreen capable of 1920x1200). I see a Craigslist offering of a highly used BVM for $600, which is way too much for my blood, but it doesn't stop me from wanting it.

>But I will never understand spending $350 on a box that makes your consoles look exactly like they do on an emulator.
Somewhat recently, I used a few amazon gift card shenanigans, coupled with bing rewards for more amazon gift cards, plus credit card rewards, and I purchased a Framemeister for well under $100 out of pocket. It is a nice option to play my games on monitors and TVs that do not have a VGA input. I do not regret my purchase, and I have fun with it. I also emulate with my phone and dedicated emulation computer, which is great for those super expensive games and translation patches.

There is not much logic for my insanity, but I do enjoy playing video games. I also like crisper video. It's within my means, and what more needs to be understood?

Actually no, it is confusing because the connectors appear to be the same. However the pinout signals are very different. With an expensive device like the framemeister, it is imperative to get the correct format, because you do not want to blow out and destroy the device. Some electrical signals in Euro SCART will be sent to pins which the framemeister's native JP21 spec shouldn't be accepting that amount for those specific pins.

I am glad that got resolved. Now you have a choice. Go with Euro SCART standard which you will be unable to use that little cable that came with the framemeister plugging into the RGB-in port, or stick with the JP21 standard.

I am the rare variety that was using JP21 RGB from a long time ago, because Nintendo and Sega had official RGB cables in Japan which I have for their systems. The downside of JP21, are the switchboxes if you want to hook up multiple systems to the framemeister may be costly and very limited: Selecty21 for mechanical (no power necessary) having only 3 ports or the JP21 gscartsw with and abundant 8 ports but you'd have to hunt down a JP21 male to JP21 male cable.

The Euro SCART standard is more popular now with the rise of youtube, and everyone knows of it. You will need to buy a replacement cable for Euro SCART to the framemeister's RGB-in mini-DIN. The switchboxes for Euro SCART are plentiful. Please note that Euro SCART does not always mean RGB, because it was a one size fits all port from composite, to S-video, to RGB.

I really wanted to help you out with your framemeister issues, because I really enjoy playing my games on monitors for decades. I hope you will get the same joy too in playing your old games. I do not regret getting my framemeister.

Plenty of cheaper alternatives exist. On amazon, there is one for $35USD. You're asking for quality, which in some cases may cost more.

I bought the XRGB2 back in the late 90's just because I wanted to play my games on my CRT computer monitor, and I was pretty happy. I'm also pretty happy with the framemeister and still enjoying my games. I just wish there were more JP21 selectors, because my RGB cables/system far outnumber what the selecty21 provides.

I can't in good conscience sell damaged monitors. Also, they are too heavy to be shipped. Plus they function as my computer and gaming monitor. No one else in my area is selling one of these things to replace, and thus my circumstance.

Image posted is what I recently got (on the bottom), which allows me to switch between 3 JP21 sources (Micomsoft after years finally made a new batch and released them December 26th of last year).
