Do you think whoever designed Lola Bunny was a furry, or that it's just a common trope of drawing women sexy in cartoons? In fact the same could be said for both Sly and Carmelita, since they're basically the focus of most of the games, with everyone else being more cartoony and stylistic. That, and Sly's changed from cartoony to more lean because they needed him to be athletic, contrasted with his sidekicks who were slow and heavy in 2.

It's not about them being furries themselves exactly, it's about what constitutes as "furry art" when it's just a nebulous term. The stuff you have in mind were still developing online when the first Sly released, and before that was barely different than Looney Tune stuff, like those weird old Jack comics.
