I make a save state at the beginning of stage 3 and then practice it again and again. I've worked out some techniques that make surviving til the end a little more likely (e.g. that bit with all the green guys who throw out randomly aimed pink bullets gets a little easier once you stategically use the bigger ships to cancel their bullets). Once you get strats practice them again and again until you can execute them perfectly. also make sure you USE THE BOMBS!
