I used to think that myself and would only play as Jonathan as a result, which made Hard Mode even harder than it probably needed to be. Then one day I decided to do a fresh Lv 1 run with the stipulation of no holy weaponry, and decided to start using Charlotte because some enemies would be stupidly hard to kill without elemental attacks.

Turns out, even in Lv 1 Hard Mode, Charlotte can blow up enemies with a good chunk of her spells, even if they're resistant.

OoE > PoR > DoS

I like them all, but I think PoR and OoE both do a better job of balancing the game without compromising the difficulty or part of what made finding new stuff equipment to toy around with so fun in the older games. PoR also seems a lot more comfortable with its anime art than DoS does, and stuff like that is why I used to consider DoS to be outright boring in comparison and in itself. Of course, it's actually been years since I sold it off, but I would probably enjoy it again were I to get my hands on it.
