Hahaha, similar for me and I think for most boys. I remember seeing the Sailor Moon game box sitting in some video game store (it was a bootleg, then again, 99% of Genesis games were bootlegs here), the cover was in Japanese, so I couldn't read "Sailor Moon" (even though I think it included a small english "pretty soldier sailor moon" subtitle, not sure if in the box, but it's on the cart). I just remember looking at the girls and being puzzled, I think it was probably the first time I saw "bishoujo" kind of anime girls, the first time I saw those types of eyes and stuff. I can't say if I was attracted or repulsed, really, it was a weird feeling. Kinda like when you're a little kid, see a girl you like, but your initial reaction is to reject her because "ew girls are stupid", something like that. So whatever I just bought Mortal Kombat or whatever other game and went on with my life. Then some time later, the TV series started running. Initially I didn't make the connection with that game I saw before, I started watching the first episode, I'm pretty sure the opening caught my attention (it's such a good opening). Then it started and I couldn't stop hating Usagi. She was the kind of silly girl I'd hate to be around with. But... I kept watching. I remember making fun of my female cousins and mocking Usagi while they watched it, but secretly I was watching and liking it too. By the time Mars joined I was fucking hooked. I remember being with my best pal and we were like "yeah, you know sailor moon too? haha, it's such a stupid show", but we kept talking about it. I don't think we admitted to like it until the series ended. Then I finally got the Genesis game. And it was like, it all went full circle. Ami was my waifu.
