... and when I wasn't playing on my actual NES, I was emulating NES on the family's 486 that was moved to the basement, while the new computer was upstairs.

Don't forget about overclocking to remove lag, works great in every Mega Man game for instance or in Kirby Dream's Land, run ahead to remove input lag if any (if your pad or setups are shit, it helps), the ability to change the volume of individual sound channels (annoyed by a particular sound? Tone it down), being able to just exit and get back where you left off without having to leave the console on.

But that's not all why emulation is based. Choose your own pad from a greater variety of possibilities, change the button setup when the game won't allow, online play (playing online games that were made before internet in homes was even a thing), but also translations, bugfixes and other type of romhacks

in b4
>you can play those on real hardware too!
Yeah, but they wouldn't exist without emulation.

Just like emulation is what made tons of games famous, small prints or games only released in specific regions. In fact, emulation made retro gaming what it is today.
All the "I'm telling you, emulation isn't like the real thing man" people who want to justify the thousands of $ (they're mostly american, as computer illiteracy is more widespread there) they're given to resellers so they can be just like their favourite e-celebs don't even realize that half of them wouldn't even have this hobby, and wouldn't know half the stuff they know, if emulation wasn't there to begin with to widespread it.

tl;dr bow down to the fecal lord

NES using Nesticle under DOS in 1998

The only way you can beat this if you did the same thing in 97

>imagine when it stops working on modern systems

You mean you don't emulate on period accurate computers? You mean you don't emulate NES on a 086?

And you call yourself retro. You'll never know how truly exquisite the NES can sound.

Even if you don't, you can put your emulator in an emulator. Put Nesticle in DOSbox or ePSXe in a win98 emulator. Now that's emulation.
