You're not meant to use CRT shaders up close, like a real CRT you're meant to sit a bit away so the grid and bloom blends in.
As for smoothing filters, they're a good idea but most of them, like >>9061670, give things a wobbly look and some stuff just gets downright fucked up, like that pipe. And Yoshi's Island is one of the games that gels best with those filters. It looks real nasty with other games, as I'm sure shitposters will be happy to show off.

That Super-2xbr shader that was linked here is a nice compromise, been using it to play MMBN1. It'll probably never catch on due to the backlash against smoothing filters that younger gamers have but I'm glad it exists.
