Marathoning the (console) Zelda games in order.

LOZ: finished for the first time, great game, but some stuff was too cryptoc to figure out on my own. Highly frustrating in some parts but doable.

Zelda 2: Outstanding game. Made it to the end a bunch of times but never finished until last week. Loved it, delightfully challenging. So underrated.

Link to the Past: Did a zero lives run, was smooth as ice and fun all the way through. Have beaten this a dozen times but it’s always a joy to revisit. Great dungeons and puzzles, will probably always be my favorite Zelda

Ocarina of Time: Enjoying this significantly less than the others, just finished the second dungeon. I played through Master quest for the first time this year, but only beat the original OOT two or three times and haven’t played it since 2007. I’m having a great time in the dungeons and with some of the side quests, but other stuff feels kind of like a slog. One of the GOAT games for sure, but I’m just not enjoying it as much as I used to.

What’s been the most fun about this experience so far has been seeing how all of the enemies, characters, locations, weapons, and music have changed from game to game.

It took me 30 years to beat this dog, but I finally did it. Played it a lot before school in 1st grade at my neighbors but never got that far. In my 20’s I got my own copy for Wii VC and got to the Great Palace on two separate occasions, but was too stoned to properly level up all the way and so I could never beat the thunderbird. But recently I got the Zelda Collectors edition for Gamecube and last night I finally got the job done (along with the first game which I’ve also never finished before).

Anyway, what’s the longest you’ve ever gone without beating a game you’ve played consistently? Have you ever returned to game you owned a long time after and finally crossed the finish line?

what the fuck? All of these people play and shit on this game and then they make their own "zeldas" and don't have the super open world exploration? Or the superb combat with insane enemy depth? How has nobody blatantly copied this game more then they have? Is it just some japanese honor thing where we have to shit on Zelda 2 because they didn't receive it well at first

Does Zelda II benefit from being a 2D action game, or would it have been better off as a top-down game?
