FF I and FF II are actually "ports" from the WonderSwan. FF III was actually in development for the WonderSwan too but due to it's low sales and low demand the game got canceled
Yeah, it's fucking sad since i actually fucking love FF I and FF II and think their sprite work is the best throughout the whole 2D series and FF III would also be great

I don't think so, the sprite work seems pretty different. I'd be surprised if they even still had the source code for the WonderSwan version
I kinda like the 3D remake but it's nice that something more (seemingly) faithful is coming to English officially.
