>it became generally theorized that Four Swords Adventures was the retconned lead-in to A Link to the Past,
There are VERY strong hints via unused localization text referring to the Master Sword and sages in a grove that this was going to be the case, and Miyamoto infamously "upended the teatable" regarding FSA story details.
>and the Oracle games took place at the end of the timeline.
I can see that, but I can also see them acting as alternate prequels to Link's Awakening (taking A Link to the Past's intended place), which is probably how Nintendo became so wishy-washy on Oracles.

>The problem is OoT is very clearly a prequel to ALttP and was designed that way.
You could say the same thing about Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures: it is PLAIN to see that FSA was supposed to be the direct sequel to FS since the game's own intro implies it's the same Link and Zelda since no other game refers to previous Links and Zeldas as such (this might actually be the worst timeline placement since it's so braindead-obvious, but I guess not enough people played the Four Swords games to care).
>It’s all Wind Waker’s fault for fucking up the timeline.
They for sure messed up with the Tingle Tuner's "Legend of the Fairy" easter egg that points to Majora's Mask being in the same timeline (and caused a lot of split-denial back in the day), but I guess we're supposed to selectively ignore that as just some fable.
