As a kid, DKC2 was the clear winner to me and it might still be in a way, it's a masterpiece, but so is 1, and as an adult I prefer 1 for its more seamless obstacle course level design. Rare sure took a note from Japanese developers on this one.
3 is still good, but feels more like DKC: The Lost Levels. Still has some of the most impressive graphics of 16-bit.

Funny enough World 4 and 5 were originally switched on the layout before someone changed it and they had to hastily rework the map screen to adjust.
