When it's tastefully done, yes. Unfortunately it's easy to go overboard bloating up a game with cutscenes to the point where it's no longer cool in any way.

man, looking back on it, survival / horror games were pretty much dominated by female protags in the late 90's and early 00's.
also, Aya is clearly the better girl.
