That's just a port/downgrade for that generation, not an entirely new title with several years of development behind it.

Great quality RPGs out of nowhere.

The two Orcs and Elves games are part of the iD RPG Universe of course, and good games in their own right (one even got a Nintendo DS port) but I consider Wolfenstein RPG, Doom RPG and Doom II RPG the best games in Carmack's RPG engine.

reposting this
All the id RPGs are fucking based. Carmack wrote the engine (over a weekend, if I recall correctly. He said he decided to finally check out gaming on cell phones and found them incredibly lame so decided to make something himself) and it was clearly inspired by the type of predominantly Western classic first person dungeon crawler PC RPGs that Carmack had played back in the day. He said he decided to go with the style he did as a way to design within the limitations of the platform instead of making a shitty half assed platformer that plays like shit or whatever.

There were 5 using the engine. Doom RPG, Doom II RPG, Wolfenstein RPG and Orcs & Elves 1 and 2, an original traditional fantasy IP made for the engine.

You can find all the iD RPG games and an emulator to play them here. I run them on my Android phone with J2ME Loader and it works great. There's an onscreen keypad for the buttons. If you want to play on PC just use the Windows version of J2ME Loader.

All the iD RPG games are in this archive:

Also, Doom II RPG had an exclusive black and white comic book tie-in. You can read it here:

>There are some quests and NPC's, but they are experimental and scarce.
>For example, you get a quest from marine in e1m1 to find another marine in e1m9 - and when you find this marine, he gives you a plasma rifle.
>The idea is cool though
Now THAT sounds cool. Getting Doom RPG vibes from that.

Fuck you nigger, the only Doom RPG is the REAL Doom RPG, with engine by King Carmack himself.

I wouldn't describe the iD RPGs as JRPGS. Carmack wrote the engine (over a weekend, if I recall correctly. To answer my own post, I've finally tracked down some good copies of Doom RPG I & II:

Their copies of Wolfenstein RPG are only in Russian so I'll try find it elsewhere.
