Nah, it ironed out a lot of kinks in 1s formula, but the entire rest of the NES series is better. Weapon balance is completely whack with Metal Man being ridiculously broken, pic related is a giant turd of a boss fight, controls are still a bit slippery, and level design while a step up from 1 is still tighter in later titles.

Also, while obviously subjective, I think the soundtrack is a bit overrated as well.

9 is the best game

Megaman 2 has some pretty BS bosses, especially in the Willy stages

While I'm glad /vr/ is waking up from the narrative that 2 is the peak of the series, I'm worried its going to have a countereffect where people will instead endlessly shit on it instead of recognizing its a landmark title in the series that ironed out a lot of the kinks from 1 and established many of the staples we now associate with MM. But then again, this is 4chan and reactionary and inflammatory posts are the name of the game.

So hell, I might as well go all out and say I rank it as one of the weaker NES titles. But frankly, even the weaker MM games are still fun to play so what does it matter?

Defend this. It is the reason why Megaman 2 is objectively a worse game than the first one. It is the one thing that definitively separates modern game design from old game design, making otherwise classic well designed games inaccessible to a lot of young gamers

OP here I also just played through MM2. I chose difficult but it seemed easier than MM1. Not sure what it was, but the level design/coloring was really comfy, especially Bubbleman's stage when you go through tunnels and there are mini-bosses, not sure how to explain it.

I had trouble with the blocks in Heatman's stage, but I came back to it later when I had item-2 and just bypassed it. Pic related is kind of baffling. I don't think I had enough Crash ammo to destroy all the things, so I tried destroying all the walls first since they stay gone, then dying, then grinding for ammo, then going back and finishing them off.

I had to retry the boss rush a few times until I strategized which bosses I lost health on and which I could do without losing health. Wily took a few tries until I decided to use the megabuster for phase 1 and realized the crash bomb was effective for phase 2. And then the alien was easy.

No ones going to get it right on the first try then when you die theres no way to refill your crashman power while being healthy enough to do the boss again, you just gotta take the game over.
