>I completely disagree with this. As someone who played this game on release and remember very well the confusion that Silent Hill set in the players minds at the time, nothing was ever clear about it less so given all the material that inspired it and is referenced in the game. You could dig circa late 90s to early 00s before Silent Hill 2 and 3 for the theories at the time and nobody had a clue about the game's narrative (as we do today).

Stop talking like you must be the only person who "was there" at the time. I'm not the kind of person who goes on wikias and then pretend he understood the story, those usually make fools of themselves exactly because wikias are full of assumptions and sometimes even mistakes. Point being everything I got from the game's story I got from the game, and if you replay it you'll see that there is nothing ambiguous about it, the player is outright told all the important things either in cutscenes or in documents you find.

The only things that are "ambiguous" are unimportant details, like why fight a worm and a moth, or the significance of this or that little detail (if there is any, as the majority of those were probably put in by the devs without a thought).

Now though, on my first playthrough there were definitely things which were unclear to me, but it wasn't due to them being "ambiguous", as literally everything important is told to the player, it was due to two factors: the fact that you learn the truth of things late in game so you're left in the dark for most of it (so if you want to understand it all, you either have to have a great memory of every detail, or simply replay the game with the foreknowledge), and the fact that I was 11 when the game came out and didn't speak english.
