Is it just me or is Super Mario Land kind of shit?

I recommend you start with SNES if you want to go early retro. Considering you are coming from being a Playstation fan the SNES has easier games. NES may be a bit too difficult to you. Although I do recommend you play SMB3 for sure even if you end up hating NES games. SMB3 is an absolutely amazing 2D platformer.

For N64 definitely try Starfox 64, SM64 and OOT. Nintendo has tons of great games. You missed out all these years.

I also beat this for the first time on Gameboy emulator only a few hours ago at the time of my posting. Good short game with the most strangest Mario physics I've played in a Mario game to date. Yet it still ended up being a good game. I'm also posting this because who knows when I will ever be able to bring up SML in a thread and I don't feel like making a thread about it.

Was anyone else disappointed by Mario Land? The box art made it look like it was going to be the most awesome Mario game of all time, but even as a scaled down version of Mario Bros. I always felt like it misses the mark pretty bad. Everything in the game is tiny, and the physics are way off. Jumping doesn't feel nearly as precise as in Mario Bros., and if you step off a ledge you fall ridiculously fast. The fireball is basically a Pong ball which makes it almost completely useless, and they did a lot of lazy stuff like making the koopas turn into bombs instead of having shell physics.

It's not terrible for a launch game but as a Mario game, there's many better options on Gameboy. I think pretty much the only reason anyone remembers it is the music, and because Mario Land 2's name reminds people that there was in fact a Mario Land 1.

I remember one time my brother, sister and I were playing on that purple game boy color, but then as were mid level in some game, it was time for dinner. They tasked me with hiding it, but me being a dumb 6 year old left it on my person and dropped it mid dinner. Our dad then proceeded to throw a little bitch fit, calling the game boy a piece of shit before chucking it into the fucking trash! I felt so bad. Someone must have dug it out because I saw my brother dicking around with it some time later.
