That's true. The Amiga tracker handled samples exclusively. But even before that, there were C64 trackers, and trackers for other sound chips. Hannes Seifert, who later went on to become one of the head dudes of Vienna Rockstar, made his own Adlib tracker and some pretty sick music with it -

I really like this one. I wonder if this is what Mieko Ishikawa wanted the song to be when she wrote it originally for Sorcerian. The original really doesn't sound like this. Very nice and melancholy song.
