I'd say if you're looking for stuff to mod and refurb, do look up every Hard Off in and near Tokyo and hit their junk bins, you will find plenty of handhelds and consoles to repair and mod.

Also check out Book-Offs and Book-Off SUPER BAZAAR, they carry games and consoles, but since they're not really known for it you can find some great deals.

In Tokyo and Akihabara-proper, know what you're looking for and be a comparative shopper, don't let FOMO allow you to buy a game you've been itching to get because it appears in front of you in a store, guaranteed the larger stores like Super potato and Retro Game Camp have plenty in their storage areas. Personally the only stores I took seriously for buying from were BEEP (Which specializes in vintage Japanese computer systems like MSX, PC-88/98 and X68000) and Friends, which is tucked away at the far end of Akihabara and always seems to have games and accessories for a steal compared to the more high-profile shops.

But yeah, you're best bet is to go through on Google Maps and mark every Book-Off and Hard-Off (and Hobby-Off) on your map so you can always check how close you'll be to one to pop in and check their inventory.
