For sure, it's not the prettiest game in the world but the driving physics feel very Sega Rally and the map is so huge you can drive for hours without passing the same spot twice.

Real talk, I don't even know what you think I'm supposed to be upset about. It's him/you frothing at the mouth with rage over how much games suck now that I find funny so I poke. If I'm the one who's supposed to be butthurt at least give me something to work with.

>I dunno man, I kinda like both. Two of my top 5 favorite games of all time are from the year 2010 but a lot of my favorite games are also retro shit

I'm very similar.

The few that do change up what happens in towns as the game progresses or have epilogues like Lunar 2 are pretty neat. And sure it would be great if more changed in towns as games went on. When I played these I mostly did it to explore the world and towns and talk to people. Of course having unique dialogue all the way through would have done a lot for immersion and world building.

I do a agree with many of your points on how old RPGs could or should have been better. But I guess instead of being disappointed by what should have been, I just enjoyed seeing what was there. It's just a game after all and I never expected that much from it.

Same as now actually. I rather like those pointless open world games, specifically because they let me entertain myself. I love that I spent over 500 hours dicking around and having fun in Just Cause 2. Exploring, blowing shit up, getting into battles and using it like open world Sega Rally and the whole time the game was fine that I never wanted to do any of the scripted missions. Was it perfect? Far from it! But I never expected perfection, just a good time and it was perfect for that.

On the flip side there's Uncharted which is one of my best friend's favorite series of all time. He loves the shit out of those games, but to me they're almost pure torture in video game form. I'll never understand why he enjoys it, but I'm happy it exists for him. Like RPGs. I'm pretty done with them, but hey if someone out there still has fun playing Dragon Quest I wish them the best.

Funny thing is, that wasn't even slightly bait.

Interesting. What's different about it?

You know what I mean. Compared to Mario and Mega Man, Simon's Quest was pretty open world. It's not divided up into specific levels and lets you mostly roam as you please. Obviously I didn't mean to imply it was like JC2.

>What are your sentiments on this /vr/?

I don't get that sentiment at all. I love retro games, but there are boatloads of awesome modern games too. Kids have access to the best of both worlds.

I know an 8 year old me would have totally fallen in love with Minecraft or Terraria.

That's all fair I guess. But I'm just a happy gamer. Even ignoring vast bulks of the games that get released I always have more stuff on my plate than I have time for and literally not a single year goes by that has disappointed me in terms of games.

So when I see posters around here who act like the entire industry is in freefall, there are no worthwhile games anymore and DLC has ruined everything, I just can't help but laugh at it. Then too often for my own good I can't help but poke and mock their being upset.

I'll go do something productive now. I am at work for fuck's sake, I probably should.

>IDK, a lot of early attempts at 3D seem far more appealing than what we have now.

That's your opinion maybe, but it's not mine at all.

And that's why we disagree on everything, you are constantly pissed off and I have a massive pile of both new and old games I enjoy playing. It must suck to be so upset about everything all the time, I hope you find some happiness someday.

>I fucking love games, which is why I don't like awful as fuck games.

I totally agree with you. I'm an incredibly picky gamer myself who's also been gaming avidly since the late 70's. I dislike or am not interested enough in at least 98% of all the games ever made, but I still don't have enough time to fully play everything I really like.

I honestly think that if you can't look around at the insane volume and diversity of games being made now and not find ANYTHING that really grabs you, then you've moved on in some way and games don't interest you the same way they did your younger self.

>Well not game types,
And yes game types, new genres are evolving all the time and old ones are thriving. Roguelikes which for years and years were super niche are finally gaining real recognition and some incredible ones are being made. That's happening in many, many genres.

I think it's amazing that these days there are games coming out both by massive game developers and tiny teams of a few passionate people. If most of it either bad or not great? Sure. But who has the time to play everything anyways? All that matters is the gems that float to the surface.

And remember, don't let those rose tinted goggles cloud your vision. There was a ton of absolute trash in the Atari days as well. Did that stop you from loving the shit out of Galaga, Pitfall, Dig Dug etc etc? Of course not? So don't let the E.T.'s of today do the same.

Meh, as a life long gamer, the PS3/360 era has had some of my favorite games of all time. They're mostly not the big name, AAA selling titles but then my tastes rarely seem to align with what's most popular.

The thing about gaming now is that it's freaking massive in comparison to even as few as 10 years ago. So while on one hand it looks like it's full of a million FPS clones because there are so many of them, there are also magnitudes of other games being made.

I am somewhat biased though in that two of my favorite genres are roguelikes and fighters which are feeling a particular resurgence over the last few years.

Part of the reason I liked the 360 so much was making playing fighters online vs tons of other opponents from the comfort of my living room a reality and that alone was wonderful.

I hate to break it too you, but all those kids who buy and play the fuck out of Call of Duty are enjoying it too. They make games for many different kinds of gamers now. Unless you're a complete asshole and want to be the only one allowed to have good games, I fail to see how this is a problem at all.

Also, I fucking love games and have for almost 40 years now. I can confidently and happily say there are still plenty of ones being made that appeal to me as well. I'm just not bent out of shape that someone who isn't me wants to play something different.

But again, don't let me stop you from your bitching! It never ceases to amuse me to see you act like a spoiled child and call everyone else kids.
