/vr/ - Retro Games

Yo /vr/ want to see if I can get your expertise here.

So, I'm really not well versed in FPS games. Especially modern, My friends always want me to play the latest Call of duty-like game with them and I have no idea where to start, I don't really feel comfortable with the controls, and I just plain don't really like the genre.

The only "FPS" game I've ever played was the original bioshock, and I liked that only because of the atmosphere, but most FPS games are pretty dull with their level designs and I get bored of them pretty easily.

So, I want to give a try at some of the old retro FPS out there. I feel that maybe if I can learn to appreciate the fundamentals and get good at the older ones, I'd be more comfortable playing these newer ones.

I mean, Correct me if I'm wrong but everyone likes doom right? I've never played but its where I plan to start.

But I'd like to make a list, so, any good Retro FPS games you guys would recommend? Bonus points if they have a unique spin like cool weapons, or fantasy/sci-fi style-non realistic settings.

Can be well known or obscure.
