If I wanted to get into the Unreal series, what should I check out? I doubt I'll be doing much multiplayer, so is the original vanilla Unreal the only thing that's recommended for single player? Do I need anything to run it, like a source port and/or patches or whatever?

I've played almost all of the classic 90s FPSes, but I never spent much time on the Unreal series. I actually played it back in the day for a few hours, but haven't touched it since. So it's been YEARS.
