Yeah, as I said some posts after that, I missed it on my first paythrough (which was blind), it was kind of brutal, and no easy ring, but I still enjoyed it. Still, even without the onyx hook, the game isn't as hard as other older RPGs I've played

So you mean 8bit games, OP?

Yeah I noticed nowdays, 8bit stuff is starting to be very old to the new generations. It's weird, but I'm 28, and to me, N64 or PS1 are still somewhat modern, I know they're retro, but in my mind they're still newish, SNES or Genesis is the normal thing for me, and NES is my childhood. I guess this is similar to how I felt 10 years ago or so and there were a lot of 30 year old guys collecting Atari 2600 or Commodore 64... I knew they were cool retro stuff, but it was still too old for me (even though I started playing videogames with a ColecoVision when I was a toddler, it wasn't until the NES that I really got very into vidya). So it must be the same for most people here now... I assume most of you are 18-21 year old and you see 8bit the same way I saw games from the 2nd gen, as something utterly archaic that was still cool for pioneering many things, but ultimately too dated for you to actually enjoy.
And I guess the same will happen in 10 years with kids who grew up playing PS2/PS3 and think N64 or PS1 is cool, but way too dated for them to actually enjoy and play.

Anyway, back on topic, I'd say RPGs. I always see people complaining about Mother 1 being hard, when Mother 1 is probably one of the easiest and most friendly 8bit RPGs out there.

There is a fan doing a hack of Mother 1 with Mother 2 graphics. The downer is that, since it's using Mother 2's code, the maps can't be as big as in the original.. so it will end up being a much smaller version of the game (which I guess some people will like, since many complain Mother 1 is too big open and easy to get lost, etc).

Personally, I love the 8bit graphics and presentation of the original Mother.
