I think there's quite enough difference between CVSpro to CVS2. Going from a 4-button style game with fully 2D backgrounds to a 6-button fighter with polygonal backgrounds is significant enough for me. I like both games and think they are both very interesting games that can exist side by side.

>>10725083
The Pro version added Dan and Joe. Both have a fighting style that offers something somewhat different from the rest of the roster.

C-groove because it has everything useful. Air guarding, rolls, short-3 segment meter, level-2 supers (which can be cancelled), and more are great paired with my team of Sagat, Blanka, Vega/M.Bison(dictator). Even with other characters it stands out as the best and there is no reason to choose any other groove if given the choice. It was extremely poor balancing by Capcom which was expected at the time, making something so dominant that nullifies all other options.

While I agree, most people hated that version and preferred it on PS2. I remember everyone was cheering on MVC2 tournaments when they smashed up Dreamcasts at the end of streams back around 2004-2006 because they hated them.

>>9152090
Yeah, thanks to Capcom, they got me interested in characters like Psylocke and Rogue. Capcom has always known how to design characters catering to my tastes I did not know I had.

>>9153139
YES!! That is it! I would love to have those but I don't have the money nor the space to house one, but I can only dream when I win the lottery, so I'll try to remember "showcase cabinet". That is how a MVC2 cabinet should look like. The one in OP's picture looks more like a Mortal Kombat cabinet than the ones that housed MVC2/Tekken 3/Project Justice. I think there was another kind of cabinet with a larger (guessing it was projection screen) with free-standing controls in front that I remember seeing MVC1/X-Men Vs. Street Fighter housed in (it might even be the same as the cabinet for Mad Dog McCree), I remember the speakers were underneath the viewing area, which would be more suitable a look than the cabinet OP features.

I like both equally, but looking more closely off the top of my head:

>SNK
Angel
Blue Mary
Fio Germi
Hotaru Futaba
Vanessa

>Capcom
Cammy White
Kasugano Sakura
Juni
Elena
Ibuki
Matoko
Maki
Juri Han
Lucia Morgan
Kazama Akira

It seems Capcom knows what I like more.

It made the Dreamcast almost relevant. It made a lot of my friends who were waiting on the Playstation 2 consider getting a Dreamcast, but they ultimately waited and got a PS2 with the game. It was part of the party at the time.

I have spent more time on CVS2 but that is primarily because my friends refused to play MVC2 with me because it was extremely one sided and lacks the random select so I can synergize characters. I couldn't pick between the two games as they are both excellent and are great in their own way.

>>7712737
I think this might be the right answer. The US-styled stick and buttons fit the Marvel games so well.

You gained the ability to do moves with a flick of the C-nub.

I think it was discontinued for sale on Xbox Live and PSN. It used to be a real popular game, and both the Playstation 2 and Xbox versions was made in short supply possibly because of expiring rights with Marvel.

I love the game enough that I would love to, but it is out of my league for its price. One day when I win the lottery ...

It was chaotic, fast, and quite a spectacle. Lots of cute characters like Cammy, Psylocke, Rogue, Jill, etc. While it is all dominated by Marvel, the Capcom characters are fun to use as well. Landing some infinites is pretty satisfying once you get into the rhythm. Back then, it was pretty cool because everyone played it and it was a great party game. Spent lots of time playing this and N64 No Mercy with friends.

I wouldn't care so much about what everyone else thinks about your favorite game so long as you enjoy it. However, for fighting games, I would prefer better balance as I enjoy using the non-popular characters. Such as here, with my low-mid tier main, I have to work so hard to almost win against an average Ryu/Ken player. The top tier characters like Ryu/Ken/Gouki control so much space leaving other characters being practically not viable. I just stick with my main just because it fits me best in playstyle, personality, and character.

It is a good system, and those are some of my favorite games. Fortunately they are also both on PS2 and Xbox. Gamecube has CVS2, but no MVC2. Xbox 360 has MVC2 but no CVS2. You can, of course, emulate Naomi and Dreamcast on your PC or phone.

It still is one of my favorites. Spent hundreds of hours playing random select matches with my friends. With the variety of characters and 6 grooves, the mechanics can change enough for variety, such that we can make house rules like, S-groove only or K-groove only and the game would have a different feel.

She was the main reason I was even interested in Final Fight 2 back then. Her stun values are like that of an average man, unlike the rest of the female cast. Though I would say it is more a shame Capcom forgot about Lucia Morgan moreso.

Nothing says intense crossover battle like the smooth jazz in MVC2.

The backgrounds in the first one looked amazing. I even like the stage intros. The passion for making the best crossover fighting game was there from the start, and I am glad they had the opportunity to refine it more to a Capcom flavor with the sequel. I even like the SNK releases, both the NGPC one and the MVS one, with the latter knowing it is broken, but at low level understanding and play among friends it was still a party.

It is my personal favorite, even through the imbalance, it is just wildly fun. Maybe it is also my love of the Dreamcast which makes it more special to me. I have fond memories of playing it alongside friends, but what held it back for my circle of friends was a lack of random select. Eventually it just got to a point where my friends got frustrated with me claiming "it's all chip damage" and 'all [I} do was put them in guessing situations" such that they started dropping off from playing the game. THey'd just swap over to some other game like Wrestlemania 2000 on the N64 just to feel good defeating me, until I started learning the nuances of that game too. Still, I think we all had fun, just playing the games.

Super Turbo, Alpha2, MVC2, CVS2, Last Blade 2, Garou, and the DOA games are the most fun I've had with fighting games. Sadly these old bones just keep me from enjoying them to their fullest again.

Didn't need a pro to confirm Blanka and Sagat are the best. Amongst my friends we all just did random select, and at times we'd mix it up like "S-groove only" or "P-groove only" to make the game feel somewhat new on terms we're not comfortable with (we did prefer C and N grooves). These little mini-challenges sort of self balance the skill level amongst my circle of friends. In one of our many random matches, I remember an angry ratio-4 K-groove Haomaru vs. a ratio-1 Gouki/Akuma and I really wanted to land Haomaru's standing heavy punch attack, and when it happened the room exploded. Good times, CVS2 lived on way long amongst us.

I remember the Capcom IRC channel was sort of buttblasted when the supposed US premiere of MVC2 was supposed to be at Southern Hills Golfland. However, it was found out a mall here in the middle of nowhere got the game in and had it set up first in the US. I did mistakenly tell the people setting the cabinet up at the mall that the button order for comboing, and it was incorrectly set up when the button order actually top 3 then bottom three left to right, but that was fixed fast. It was hard to believe that California, where Capcom US was based, would not get its MVC2 fix first, they called that mall arcade to verify my information.

The games came a nice time with the internet still sort of in its wild west. It was good times comparing what characters got unlocked at various arcades around the country locations, since they were on a timer/playcount. We'd make combo videos to J-pop/J-rock and techno/trance. Trash talking across the country, different styles developing like how the New York area felt a runaway style with Storm was really strong, finding out flying characters (Storm, Sentinel, Magneto, Iron Man, etc.) have amazing advantages as fly/unfly combos, silly glitches getting discovered, etc. I think was a strong part of the experience of playing the arcade games.

>>4361884
I think the generally accepted port people like is the Xbox Live Arcade version on 360. Tournament organizers were destroying Dreamcasts on their many streams in celebration when that was announced. Hard for me to watch as I liked playing Dreamcast games but I suppose the Dreamcast was difficult to work with for competitive play. I think they just used the Dreamcast because MVC2 was more plentiful on that system, while the PS2 and OG Xbox versions were a bit more uncommon so they didn't use them. I would pick cat with a gat, just for agility and range.

>>4361572
I had to get MVC2 because I loved the previous VS games on Saturn and DC. I did find the jazzy music strange.

Random select. It was how I played with my friends. However if I were to choose, probably charge characters (Blanka, Dictator, Guile, Claw, Boxer, Edmond Honda), evil characters (Rolento, Sagat), and sometimes cute (Cammy, Sakura, fanservice Yuri - her pants are colored like her arms, Hibiki, and Vice).

If random select ever gives me Kyousuke, Chang/Choi, Rock Howard, Maki (despite being cute), Raiden, or Zangief ... I am fucked!

C-Groove best choice (but again, random select to keep interesting with friends).
