If you really must have 240p yes you will need to add an Rxi after the VSC or try to track down one of the handful of Emotias still remaining in the wild. You probably wouldn't be able to notice any difference between 240p and 480I on a 5" 250tvl screen though.

The "high-end TVs" you mentioned are not TVs at all, but rather monitors. You know, for monitoring the signal quality in a broadcast or media production environment. Most were designed for 480i display and are intended to separate the lines so they may be better evaluated for unwanted artefacts. If the lines were all mushed together as with consumer sets they would be useless for this purpose. The main driving force behind this separation of lines is the beam width / focus which is directly related to the TVL spec of the tube in use.

As an aside, a lot of the hate for 480i in the gaming community is down to the fact that line separation and flicker is greatly exaggerated on these monitors. On an SD consumer set it generally looks perfectly acceptable.
