What are some over-rated titles you've been suckered into wasting hours of your life on? Here's mine.

Cons
-Garbage stage design. Most stages are just fucking squares with arbitrary elevation changes. Barely any obstacles to use as cover. Completely forgettable designs.
-Forced to have shit guest members who you can only use during main missions, so you can't develop them. On top of this, the trash AI controls them, and will routinely hurt your own units with AoE attacks, or simply run headfirst into the enemy and suicide.
-Most jobs basically unusable, ass backwards damage formulas. Why the fuck does the highest prestige melee unit use magic as their primary stat? Probably because the development team were fucking retarded.
-Pointlessly complex zodiac/gender system to completely fucks how units interact with each other, a system only the most autisic could enjoy. Gee, I love having to inspect every fucking unit before an attack to see if it will actually do anything. Not remotely tedious at all!

Pros
-Pretty artstyle
-Great OST
-Another riveting retelling of the War of the Roses, because we don't have nearly enough of those.

Truly, a 9/10 game for a time when there was next to nothing to compare it to. Even FFTA is better than this dumpster fire.

I considered listing something less well loved for cool internet points but the real answer is Final Fantasy Tactics for me. The game excels in every avenue imo.

The story is weighty and complicated but still has an enjoyable fantastical bent—the world feels alive and lived in through its politics and history. Ramza finds himself caught in the gears of history trying to do the right thing, it feels so much more real than a story about a chosen one fighting an ancient evil or what have you (though I can enjoy that, too). And then at the end, there is no clean resolution. Delita is heralded by history as a hero while Ramza is branded a heretic and fades into obscurity, time marches on. And while I don’t think Delita was right, I kind of can’t believe him. He saw a world he was powerless to change using honorable means and did what was necessary. And the world was better for it. It really struck a chord with me.

The music is excellent and imo Sakimoto’s best work. Trisection is unrivaled as an RPG battle theme, it is an incredible composition and it’s a real achievement to make a song with time changes that wild that anyone can enjoy listening to.

Gameplay is fun and rewarding, trying out new job combinations can give you all sorts of fun nonsense. Some are more broken than others, but experimenting is fun. Battles are challenging but mostly fair and really encourage you to find a good setup.

Graphically it is outdone by some of its contemporaries, but I find the style very charming and I think the visuals really help bring the world alive. The backgrounds are simple and very low poly, but managed in a way that still looks good to my eye in the modern day.

This is absolutely my favorite game of all time and there’s a reason why it’s considered a classic.

The only two Final Fantasy games I've ever tried are 7 and 15, and I did not care for either of them.

7 was too grindy and slow-paced with constant random encounters and the prerendered backgrounds and "fake 3D" did not age well. 15's combat was simply so god awful that I could not stand it, and it had some weird issues with performance and image quality despite me having a pretty good gaming PC (anti-aliasing makes the screen look like it's covered in vaseline).

So my question is, will I like Tactics? I just heard some guy on /v/ say it's the only good FF game. Is that true? The isometric graphics have a certain charm to them that 7 and 15 lack. How's the combat? Is it as braindead as 7 and 15, or are is there some strategy to it? Is the story any good?

What are some niche games that are incredibly fantastic and don't try to appeal to any audience?

I've decided recently I'm done with any game that is trying to be inclusive. I want real quality games that only some people 'get' and try to understand their appeal myself. I have come to realize I have bad taste in games and want to know what are true quality games.

Pic related is my best example. I know this is something posted a lot but I don't know much else. I want to know what games have a sense of 'soul' in them and you can tell they put their heart into it.

So /vr/, I just have finished this game and I have questions.

What the fuck with that ending? We see Ramza and Alma riding chocobos, so they didn't die. But, what about the other party members? Did Agrias, Mustadio, The Thunder God, Rafa, Malak die in the final battle?

Did Delita survive that wound?

Did Olan really had to die? Why didn't anyone tried to save him for fucks sake?

Also, this is the darkest Final Fantasy game I have ever played so far.
