Don't be too hard on the shit SNES, we have very low expectations for it after all, it's crippled and bottlenecked CPU, running at a mere 1/3rd the speed of all it's competitors, simply could not keep up and tended to grind to a halt with more than 3 simultaneous objects on the screen. Sad for nintendrones, that their beloved console couldn't outperform a computer from a full 4 years prior.

It's colorful, but the repetitive music is annoying.. Overall I much prefer to play Galaxian and Phoenix, or later games like Terra Cresta, Dangar, and especially the Amiga game Hybris (it's heavily inspired by Dangar).

There's also an old (90's era) Unix/X11 remake of Xevious called "xbat":

It's one of the few Unix shoot'em up games I enjoy, other than Maelstrom and XGalaga (but can't get that last one to compile anymore, and the SDL version isn't as nice).

Hybris - some real arcade action right here!

And let's not forget Battle Squadron

For some reason the game looked much better on my CRT monitor than in this video (colors don't seem quite right...)

Since nobody got that one, here's another Amiga game. It's a fairly well-known shoot 'em up...
