I suppose Ghost Recon is kind of kicking around but it's ruined by even it's singleplayer portion being GAAS crapola.

But yeah, tactical shooters appeal to a whole different crowd than DOOM/Quake or even Half Life etc.

Yeah, Soldier of Fortune has some pretty damn good 'feel' to the guns.
Didn't really like the submachine gun in SoF1 though and it lacked a proper assault rifle, I enjoyed it more when SoF2 came out and you could have essentially a half lifeish game feel and tear up terrorists and narcosoldiers with an M4 carbine and other realistic guns.
Fun fact but John Mullins, the game's protagonist was U.S Special Forces in Vietnam / Laos and iirc an actual mercenary afterwards, he's a pretty based old coot.

Is he still canon or did he get retconned? I heard that they retconned all of the Gearbox expansions because Randy Negroford made Gaben angry, I don't know if it's true though.
