Enix wanted to expand to the west and the online shit was for DQ, they managed this with DQX, apparently Horii started working on ideas around the early 2000s, in a interview he stated he wanted to make a DQ online game wich started production around 2005 along with DQIX, funnily enough IX, X and XI where supposed to be a trilogy but the 30th anniversary of the franchise got in the way, this is from a interview with ol Sugiyama who was notorious for leaking information about DQ, in said interview he states that by changing the theme intro like in how DQIII changed its theme compared to DQIV, Horii wanted to start a new trilogy, DQIX have been prove to happen thousand of years before DQX I the lastest expansion with the hero and greygnarl from IX being heroes of the new celestrian race.
