This isn't really a revelant comparison because vinyl and tapes are storage mediums with a huge gap in the quality of data that can be stored on them.

The games are exactly the same, we're just talking about a different way to display them.

I used to really like the precise pixelly rendition my Sony KDL-37W5500 HDTV gave, but I got hold of a PVM monitor out of curiosity and after seeing pics around the net, and it's really blown me away for some games. I have a pic I took as an example of how good quality it is, but the bottom left close-up image blurred because I held the camera right up to the screen like an idiot rather than using the optical zoom. Keep in mind this is a 14 inch screen. Anyway, I think it looks incredible in person

Not sure if they're available in the states but I use a Holdan HSR-1000 which is perfect. Has 6 SCART inputs (4 of which support RGB) and one RCA and if you plug two phono leads in the back it will route left and right audio to your amplifier or whatever (I do this because my PVM only does mono). It cost me £5.60 on ebay, £14.59 incl delivery

I took a few pics recently to show my friend the clarity. It's brighter and nicer in person but you get the idea

I haven't played many shmups but I've slowly started to get in to them over the past six months. Started Thunder Force II last night which has blown my socks off, looks great on the PVM and the music is badass - even the game over music pumps me up to go again. Only the second game I've played since working out what was wrong with with the monitor

(it's only 14 inches so the cam went out of focus a little taking the bottom left shot but you get the idea of how clear it is - looks amazing in person)
