My dad had everything set up with RF switchboxes which degraded the signal even more. Funny you mention SMW because I think that was the first game I truly noticed the static and distortion on as well. When I finally got old enough to start poking around the back of TV sets myself, I found the little Mitsubishi in my bedroom (picrel) had a hidden composite input, and it was like a mini-Christmas.

I've been trying to get cleaner and sharper signals ever since; I always wanted my games to look as crisp and colorful as the games at the arcade did, which were RGB. So I always have to laugh when people tell me that I'm playing games "wrong" by using anything higher-quality than RF or composite, lol. I don't want RGB because some hipster with a youtube channel told me to get it; I want it because my autistic 12-year-old self would have shit his pants with joy to learn there was something even better than S-video. Plus I just think it looks nice, so shoot me.

Authentic retro battlestation photo from my childhood bedroom circa 2000. I took this with one of those shitty mini-polaroid cameras I got for Christmas. Sadly, most of my consoles are out of frame, but you kind of see my Sega Genesis with Earthworm Jim 2 underneath the TV and to the right. I used that TV to play every video game I ever had from 87 to 2009.

There's an old IBM PC on the floor that I got from my dad's garage when they were going to toss it out. You can see the microphone propped up against the TV speaker, I used to make .wavs from TV show themes and movies and stuff.

Posting this shitty, tiny, blurry pic of my old bedroom circa 1999. I know it looks like I'm watching MST3K, but that's actually a construction paper cutout taped to the bottom of my screen for shits. I'm 99% sure I was playing Ocarina of Time, and this was during a cutscene in death mountain crater or something.

Also my Genesis with EWJ 2 is visible. I played that game so fucking much.

>I'm sure the internet being popular on smartphones, and facebook being a thing mixed with EPIC DEPRESSION MEMES added to it all.
Probably this. Kids are way too connected to just how miserable the world is nowadays. They're "growing up" faster, I guess. I'm super glad to have been born when I did. Early enough to take full advantage of the birth of the internet and the home computer, but not late enough to take it for granted.

Yeah that's gotta be it, very nice anon. Hopefully I come across one in the wild eventually but all I ever find are fighting and obscure light gun games.

Here's a question, /crt/; When did you stop using a CRT as your main television?

I don't doubt that some of you are hipsters who only own 20+ year old technology, but the rest of us are actually just normal people who realize a flatscreen has its advantages.

I actually didn't upgrade until 2014, because I skipped out on the first HD generation of games. All of my friends were getting flatscreens around 2006, but I saw no reason to, because everything we did on them looked fucking terrible because we were playing Wii games and watching DVDs through composite. I figured I'd wait until the technology got better and the sets got cheaper, and I bought my first flat screen to go with my PS4 and Wii U.

Pic somewhat related. My childhood CRT that remained in service until 2009.

This is my setup circa 1999. I took it with a shitty disposable polaroid camera I got for Christmas. MST3K is on the tube, but I think that's my Genesis with Earthworm Jim 2 underneath.

Yes, my computer was on the floor in front of my TV. I had a microphone propped up against the TV speaker so I could record sound wavs from video games and tv shows to share on AOL, but I had no internet in my bedroom, so I used to split the wavs apart onto multiple floppies, transfer them to my parents' PC and then edit them back together. And that's the way I liked it.

Nice. I still have my old 20" Mitsubishi that my mom bought for my brother and me in 1987 to go with our new NES. I played every video game I owned until 2011 on it. I feel like I should dig it out of the attic and play some vidya on it for old time's sake.

The only picture I have of it. Taken with an extremely shitty polaroid in 2000 while watching some MST3K. I think that's my Genesis underneath with Earthworm Jim 2 plugged in.
