Yeah, there's a whole subtle art to the geometry of the playfield. And an additional art to designing the rules.

Here are some things people don't like:


Things people mostly don't like
Upper flipper that only leads to targets (as opposed to some sort of loop or habitrail)
“Spellathon”
Too much time spent on video modes.
Games with very simple repetitive strategies.

A Spellathon is a pejorative term for a game where every major feature must be started by hitting a certain shot a certain number of times. (Ex: start mode "4chan" by hitting the right ramp 5 times, where each shot lights one letter in the word 4chan)
