There's no need to have a problem with "general" threads on /vr/. When there's pages of x general threads on a board where threads last 10 minutes without being bumped, yeah, it makes a difference when you can effectively clear up a whole page or two of threads.
/vr/ is slow enough that "general" threads aren't a problem in this sense. Sure, you might not want to see the crt thread, so just hide it and it's impact will be absolutely minimal. What, do you want people to make their own thread for their battlestation every time? Should we not have threads about certain genres? Threads talking about a console as a whole being banned? They're general threads whether or not you like the label.

tl;dr you're idiots and the word general doesn't make it not appropriate for /vr/
