certain mechanics in games can become antiquated over time but they don't age per se. Think about games in real life: (baseball, scrabble, the rubix cube), and see how they're just as playable as they were in the many decades since they've been created. Video games are the same way.
I swear, some people see games just for their art and aesthetics to the point where they wildly overshadow the actual gameplay. Art in a broader sense could be seen as a reflection of culture, so you could argue games can age in that respect. Still, yoshi's island has a pretty timeless fantasy storybook artstyle that's removed from any real-world influence, so I really don't know why you chose that particular game to make this argument on.
