Is this game as bad as people say? Is the only DQ game I haven't played.

Currently downloading Dragon Warrior 7 to emulate on my laptop - This will be the second game of the series since I played Dragon Quest VIII years ago, which I fucking loved to pieces for its undeniable charm, fantastic story (mad but fantastic story) and brutal difficulty. I would like to replay it but I need to buy a new copy.

Am I to expect a similar feel with Dragon Warrior VII? Or can anyone recommend some of the older titles?

Is Dragon Warrior worth giving a shot? I'm looking for an RPG to play, but I'm a little daunted because it seems like SUCH a long game, and not in a good way. I remember playing it when I was a teenager and I started again yesterday, but it literally seems that you aren't doing shit for the first 2-3 hours. I got as far as the temple or whatever and ended up shutting the game off out of boredom.

Is it worth giving another shot, or are there some other RPGs for the PSX worth trying? I love the Final Fantasy series, but honestly I'm kinda burned out. I always get bored playing Seven, and Eight's system... I just don't care for it. I've played 9 more times than I can count.

I want to emulate this since finding a copy is tough and Square Enix is eating out Lightning instead of localization the remake.
However the emulator I've been using is EPSXE and all the settings are a bit confusing to me because I'm an idiot. So I was wondering what plugins and settings to use, unless there's a better emulator that cuts the bullshit.
