Sometimes I give it a chance and, although I play 5th and 6th gen almost exclusively, I get filtered by how unrefined, not to say clunky, the controls are. I like clunky but not when you spend more time setting up a motion than on the actual motion. They unironically should have made this story about a sexy robot girl and this would be a lot more charmful. The entire button layout can be used as a 101 for things not to do as well (jumping on square, wasted buttons, even the sequels hardly factor in thumbsticks). The levels are just slow and monotonous, visually and design wise. Zelda players probably want to roll to get some feeling of velocity and distance but Lara's roll is just a time waster and fucks with your camera outside of combat. Also some nitpicks:
>aimbot guns with unlimited ammo
>dinos and other randomness that clash with a decent premise
>human enemies take 30 bullets
>we're just supposed to think a whore's greed and wanderlust is worth 1000 dead wolves, bears and other animals...?
>weakly structured progression, *beat* a tomb and you just spawn in the next one like in some 80s MUD

Maybe I'm late to the party with this hot take but I remember the OG games being a huge deal back then. I rarely still hear or read about them anymore

Finished this and fucking loved it.

It's like a mix of Mario and Resident Evil. It's fucking brilliant and the levels were atmospheric as fuck and also challenging (but in a good game).
