>I never had the problem, so the problem must not exist
Why can't you just say "I never experienced that" instead of jumping to conclusions? It's not a matter of CRC errors or buffer underruns. The games would be burned successfully without errors, they just didn't work right on some consoles.

I had a PS2, a first class Sony DVD burner and only used quality Verbatim blank DVDs, reading from a fast 10k RPM SATA HDD. My PS2 was modchipped, had the original DVD reader and lens, and was otherwise untouched, worked flawlessly. The ISOs were perfect and hash-correct.

Depending on the game, if you didn't burn that shit at 1x, very often the PS2 would either refuse to read them, get stuck on an endless loop, or manage to boot the game but reward you with endless crashes and huge load times.

Weirdly enough, like I said it only happened with certain games. I remember getting away with burning Tekken 5 at like 4x or even 8x. Tried that shit with MGS3 and wasted like 5 DVDs until I burned it at 1x, which worked flawlessly.

I never had this problem with CDs, though.

They could perfectly reach it dozens of years ago, the real question is why would you do it for retro games of all reasons?

I would always have to get that flying powerup on the bonus stage after 2-2. If I failed then I had to reset. Fuck that jump.
