I'd argue the last year where the "old net" was in full force was 2008. Like you said, it took a while for its "spirit" to diminish, but by 2009 you could already see things changing somewhat. I agree, though, that in 2015 we had pretty much entered the current shit paradigm in full force, and it's gotten worse since then. I'm >>9717087, and one of the things that struck me when I got out was how prevalent clickbait had gotten. I was no stranger to it, I had already seen its steady rise, but by the time I was out, shit was EVERYWHERE. Seeing big news organizations that are supposed to be "respectable" be in on it, to say nothing of every Youtube thumbnail being some bearded dude or SO NERDY chick (always with thick-rimmed glasses, of course) literally making the s0i0bi reaction faces with both the video title and thumbnail text begging you to click (This is CRAZY! You won't believe what I made! This guy is UNHINGED etc)... and it works. It works pretty fucking well. It's like they've completely figured human psychology out by now, and have also figured out how to fully exploit it and manipulate you to the fullest extent to "increase engagement". And I think there's already a lot of negative social consequences as a result of all the shit we've talked about ITT. Only way I can see things changing for the better is if somehow some kind of regulation was enacted or some shit in some effort to try to curb net addiction and exploitation of addictive behavior and psychological manipulation by algorithms and such, but that's a whooooooole other can of worms, so maybe not.
