Who is /vr/'s favorite retro gaming expert? Mine is either Jeremy Parish or Kurt Kalata of HG101 fame.

Why aren't more people doing serious academic research and documentaries on retro gaming like Jeremt Parish in his books and 'Works' video series? It seems like a academic field that is ripe for this, as most coverage is the peepee poopoo unserious entertainment type. Why?

If you're unfamiliar, this kind of stuff is what I mean:

And its video supplements:

The series is his doing on Metroidvanias is also an excellent example of the type of thing I mean:

>REEEEE MUH E-CELEBS
This thread isn't about Parish specifically but his works are the best example of this. Plus the guy has like 50k subscribers and just does YT on the side, he's far from an e-Celeb
>HE ISNT AN ACADEMIC, HE CANT EVEN BEAT GHOSTS N GOBLINS
OK, GnG sperg. Skill at one game doesn't invalidate ones works on retro gaming.
>HE JUST READS MUH WIKIPEDIA ARTICLES
No, he doesn't, he does his own research and speaks/reads Japanese. Some of the games he has covered don't even have Wikipedia articles. He is covering every game released in NA for NES and other systems in his Works series in order of release.

Is there anyone out there doing this kind of thing to document the rich history of the now retro era of gaming?
