Understandable. It gets better after the first time around. Its worst offender is easily Wacky Workbench, but aside from that you'll eventually get used to the flow of the game. In the end I find most peopler are either a 1+CD person or a 2+3K person.

I will say definitely try other SEGA CD games, though. There's plenty of solid titles such as Popful Mail, Snatcher, the Lunar titles, The Terminator, and a nice selection of shmups as well.

They both have a lot of good ones imo

32X was the one with 40 games, SEGA CD had closer to 200, 3DO had more like 300. Honestly both excellent libraries imo

2 is basically like 1 but harder. Chaos and Triple Trouble are good imo. Spinball and Mean Bean Machine aren't that different from the console versions aside from the stuff they obviously had to scale down for the smaller screen size and 8-bit hardware. The Drift games are okay from what I recall but definitely not as good as Sonic R or Power Drift. Some people really like the Tails games but I never really got into them. Blast and Labyrinth are the only ones most people seem to really hate.

>Sonic was a new franchise at the time and they were already tarnishing its reputation by doing this
Not really. I mean aside from those Tiger handhelds and what eventually became the Nomad, this was the only way you could play Sonic on the go back in the 90's. Some of them like Spinball and Mean Bean Machine probably worked even better that way when you consider the simpler arcade-style nature of those games. They might be "bad" compared to the console titles, but they're mostly harmless.

Maybe because SEGA already had one and they randomly decided to throw it out the window for no reason. This is more like if Nintendo randomly decided to get rid of Mario and try a "new" mascot for the N64

Most Sonic 2 fans do not like Sonic CD. This is because their design philosophy is kind of at opposites, sort of. Sonic CD pulls from the Sonic 1 school of design, whereas 2 kind of laid the foundation for the 3K school of design. If I can compare it to anything it's sort of like the SMB3 vs. SMW rivalry or the Yoshi's Island vs. DKC rivalry amongst Nintendo fans.

I didn't find them any more offensive than the average Mario boss

>>10513579
Maybe not quite as polished as the 16-bit entries but I wouldn't call them shovelware. They're still probably some of the best titles on Game Gear and Master System

The soundtrack is really good and it's pleasant to look at but it's a tough game. Tides of Time seems to be a bit better. I haven't played that much of either but that's what I've gathered

>Sure if you want to toss hundreds of dollars in addons it better become more powerful. Too bad few will develop for such addons. SNES had enhancement chips too.
Was not trying to start a console war. SNES was my favorite console until I started playing both SEGA CD and TurboGrafx-CD a few years ago. Not popular add-ons but they were indeed capable of some really impressive stuff that Nintendo would not see until the GameCube, primarily CD audio and FMV. SNES is still better at a lot of things, mainly transparency and on-screen colors (though the 32X may have had more, not sure).

I should also probably note that I'm kind of ignoring the cheeky image/suggestion in the OP. The last thing SEGA needed in 1998 was more add-ons, especially anything that resembled the 32X. The SEGA CD was still great though imo

Play the other Sonic games, most people gravitate towards 2 or 3K but I have a soft spot for CD. There's also Knuckles Chaotix, the Game Gear titles, and the Advance games. If you like Disney check out DuckTales or Darkwing Duck on NES. The SEGA Disney games are also pretty good.

Idk whether to recommend Mega Man because there is a lot of combat, just not in the same style as Castlevania. Try Mega Man X on SNES and see if you like it, then try some of the others if you do. Tons of games I could list but trying to stick with the essentials

It's a'ight. SEGA CD is where it's at though. No hardware limitations on audio = best music of 16-bit era (alongside TurboGrafx-CD)

Compared to CPS-1 and CPS-2? I guess, though I give Genesis the edge just for the Streets of Rage series and Final Fight CD. SNES did have Turtles in Time and Final Fight 2, though.

Genesis doesn't have Popful Mail, Snatcher, or Lunar games. Sure you don't need SEGA CD to enjoy Genesis games but it does add a lot to an already great library, including arguably one of the best Sonic games
