What special things can it do?
Other than just plugging it in and it working.
I mean why does it have so many buttons on its remote. What is it supposed to do?

Has anyone taken the OSSC's open source firmware and done their own thing with it?

GBS + wifi chip + Acrylic case + tools + VGA -> HDMI adapter
That's like $90 right there, and that's assuming you have soldering equipment
Open source CHAD converter wins again

Lets talk OSSC vs retrotink2x pro.

The plan is ps2 (with plenty of ps1 games also, so 288p mode is important), og xbox, and PSP all on component cables via a component switch, and then a dreamcast via VGA. As far as i can tell this should all work with ossc.

My question is, how much dicking around do you really have to do with the OSSC to get something that works ok? Im not a huge retro purist here, i want to play on the original hardware ive got, but i just want something that looks and works decently with a modern HDTV. Its nice that OSSC provides so many tweak options, but do you *have* to use them all the time, or are they truly optional? Will i have to adjust timing and scan settings and stuff every time i want to switch consoles or what? This seems to be an advantage retrotink has over OSSC, that it more or less just works. But if i go with retrotink, id lose the nice VGA output for the dreamcast.

Whats your opinion /vr/

So is there a point to things like OSSC and Frame Meister if your HDTV still has Component/Composite inputs? Are retro inputs in HDTVs really that rare? Are they for recording retro games with capture cards?
