As an arcade racing games fan, for me it's Japanese GT1. True JDM experience, godlike music, very fun arcadeish gameplay with subtle sim elenents, more like Sega Rally than later GT games. In fact, both Japanese GT1 on PS1 and Sega Rally on Saturn are equally the greatest 5th gen home console racing games. Daytona USA home ports are not even close in gameplay department and GT2 handling is too boring.

I love the style and the music but I can't get over non-existent driving physics.
Pic related is the best dorifto racing game on PS1.

How come N64 is known for its huge racing games library but none of them beat Gran Turismo 1 and 2, Ridge Racer Type 4, Need for Speed High Stakes and Wipeout 3? People also claim CTR as the best cart racer of it's era which I haven't played much to confirm but still, isn't this embarrasing from the N64 library point of view?

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Japanese Gran Turismo 1 release, aka the based NTSC-J version with JDM car roster and Masahiro Ando music. Anyone's up for the challenge? Let's say, Trial Mountain, arcade mode, class A cars.

I've been trying to do GT2 challenge from /VROOM/ thread some time ago and checking it side by side with GT1 and I'm surprised how different they are. GT1 is more smooth, fun and has an arcade like flow to it. Nailing a good drift feels like Initial D. GT2 went into a different, more realistic and sweaty direction. To each each own, but if you're into JDM games, like TXR, Initial D and Battle Gear, I suggest giving GT1 a try. NTSC-J version for the authenticity.
