FF8's "romance" plot is utter shit. Riona just repeatedly hits on Squall until he finally relents. While that is the ideal relationship to young shut-in Japanese males, it is bullshit and completely unrealistic.

Look to FF9 if you want the better, more believable romance. It starts off real enough with Zidane just trying to get into Garnet's pantaloons. As the two are forced to travel together they fight, joke, tease each other, and share secrets, until it blossoms into a love that rooted in trust. All the while that's basically a b-plot which isn't the focus of the story but rather takes place in the background of it, only adding to the believability.
