It's easy to say the blackjack is too easy when you've played the game for decades now and most FMs are city missions without mechanical or undead elements. I don't think Thief's blackjack is any easier than knocking/taking enemies out in Deus Ex, MGS, Tenchu, or Dishonored and the base game would feel lacking without it as a tool and when you watch new players, it's greatly appreciated by them for making "stealth space" in levels. That said, I'd totally play a fan mission where you don't have it and I recommend people check out Spoonman's recent Thief FMs (and King of the Mountain for TDM) for missions where you don't start with equipment and have to do some proper sneaking. They have low ratings despite being really well built because people get butthurt and see him just releasing missions as an attack on them because they're "not serious enough".
