Does anyone still play Quake III Arena?

I've never cared for 2 or 4, but III is my second favorite in the "series" after the original.

> Lived in a House of Quake growing up
> Never really got into Unreal
> Dicked around a tiny bit with UT on the Dreamcast and UT3 on the PC
> Dig classic shooters
> Want to play the original Unreal because it seems weird having that hole in my personal videogame canon
> Only chose this image because I know it will get people's attention

I already have the Unreal Pack on Steam, is there anything I should know or have to do about the original Unreal on a modern system or can I just fire it up?

Is there a way to get 21:9 resolution support?

Does this still have an active player base? Thinking about buying it on Steam, but don't want to waste my money, if it's dead. I just want to play a real multiplayer fps again.

Please stop misuing the term arena shooter. It's a very specific and scarecely populated subset of multiplayer FPS.

What Quake/UT style multiplayer shooters are there that still have people actively playing? I know about Quake Live, but I think that technically does not qualify as retro.
