Galaxy Force 2. Go look a playthrough of this on youtube, the graphics are beautiful, Sega made an amazing use of scaler tech on this.

Trying to ID an old arcade game I used to play as kid.

It was a foward scrolling shooter in the same vain as Space Harrier, After Burner, and pic related but you played as a Delorean-looking futuristic car that shot laser beams and what not. The cabinet wasn't nearly as complicated as Galaxy Force 2; I think it was either just a flight stick or a sit down car-looking cabinet.

Anyone have any clue what I'.m referring to?

reminds me of a more advanced version of pic related

Local arcade used to have one of these and it cost the equivalent of $2 for a single game.

I played this one a lot as a kid. It just spun around 360 degrees, but it was fucking dope

So I recently got to play this gem from 1988 for this first time in my life, albeit on the 3DS (great version btw). I have to say, it's without the shadow of a doubt the king of all Sega Super Scaler titles. No matter whether it's After Burner II, Space Harrier, Hang-On or OutRun - they all can't touch this.

There were many versions and releases over the years, sadly most of them did not live up to the high standard of the arcade experience thanks to the powerful Sega Y Board Hardware that even gave a 32-bit home console like the Saturn a run for its' money. It all started in the arcade of course but they also released this on the Saturn, Playstation 2, PC, Nintendo 3DS eShop, Amiga, Genesis, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Wii Shop & FM Towns.

And so there's potentially a lot to talk about here. I would love to hear some experiences, especially from those who had the opportunity to play the arcade version and I'd also like to collect any worthwhile info on this thing here that you might have.

I miss going to the local arcade and find an awesome new cabinet like pic related. By the mid 90's everything was either a fighting game, a lazy looking racing game that was more about graphics them the experience, or the occasional shmup or sports-like game. Then later came all those rhythm games that I was to lazy and uncoordinated to bother trying

Why did the arcade scene have to die, /vr/?

Also
>that feel when Galaxy Force 2 is more nausea inducing than After Burner, even without the cabinet

Are the cabinets themselves that important, or is it the quality of the ports that's in question?
I know Galaxy Force II had one hell of a set-up, and sadly that's the only one I have not had the chance to play in arcades. All I've played is the PS2 port, which is arcade perfect as far as I understand.
