Why are the DKC "ports" and adaptations so weird? Lot's of strange choices.

Donkey Kong Land has new levels, some snes songs and some new ones.
Land 2 and III are basically just worse ports.
DKC3 on GBA has an entirely new OST by David Wise again (due to hardware, I guess?), but DKC2 GBA, Land 2, and III didn't.
Also Land III had a colored version exclusive to japan on GBC, that also removed some small details
