I play on retroarch and tried even the new ones on the new consoles. I gave up after the BotW. Only the top down 2D ones that aren't 1 and minish entertain me. Probably because I'm a Ys autist.

Alright I will post. I agree, Op, Final Fantasy is the worst JRPG franchise be it the best example of it, and fails to revolutionize Hydlide to the degree audiences should expect with better technology.
I have played JRPGs for a long time and marketers and peers can not convince me what to like, FF is bad and DQ is for midwits. Tales of, for a long time, was a great deal better and more engaging than any FF, which of course makes it better than any babby trite crap SpikeChuni shits out with DQ. The developers of both series aim to gather, again, the midwit sales and the easily convincible proles to purchase their mundane trash.
To this I will say I enjoy and would like to state the following hydlide baby (not hydlide clone such as ys and zelda) franchises and one offs at one time were better than FF and DQ:

Dual Orb
Emerald Dragon
Treasure of the Rudhras
Tales of (from phantasia to graces f)
Shadow Hearts
Growlanser
Grandia
Wild Arms
Xenogears
Crono Cross
Star Ocean
Legend of Heroes
Valkyrie Profile

Suikoden
Breath of Fire
Altierie (sp), and it's spinoffs
blah blah blah more I can't remember

Remember most people that come on this board are sub 110 IQ anyway so they can't even see how bad their fucking games are, but technology got better so there were more avenues to entertain the market yet FF and DQ stayed stale was steered to do nothing but gather money from the most populous demographic.
FF and DQ are like modern day hiphop/kpop, but in the form of an anime character role playing adventure.

Youre right OP.

a few things:

1) A bunch of shitty, arcade game ports with no difficulty adjustment. 3 Lives, 1 hit death, no continues. sounds fair.

2) The base font they provided looked like ass and is still blurry in a perfect setting.

3) Horrible, horrible sound effects. Just grating. Developers also didnt put much time into the music, compared to NES games.

Nintendos licensing also punished it, which didnt really break up until the early 90s, too late for SMS.

Also, wtf with the Left handed Control Stick & Sports Pad!!?
