FF1 - Played on emulator when I was sick in 2008, beat it, but not without savestates
FF2 - Bought for iOS, played maybe an hour of it
FF3 - Played DS version, gave up about 10 hours in. Tried replaying a translated famicom rom, gave up where your whole party is shrunk after the dwarf cave.
FF4 - Beat on SNES when I was 5
FF5 - Beat on GBA when I was 12 or 13
FF6 - Beat on Snes emulator just a few years ago, by far the best FF game I've ever played, although the job system in FFV was REEEEEALLLLY GOOD
FF7 - Played maybe 3 or 4 hours into the first disc, gave up
FF8 - Never played
FF9 - Got about 10 hours in, still have yet to beat, but I like it a lot, need to go back and finish.
FF10 - Played an hour of it, gave up.
FF12 - Played about 10 hours into it, gave up.
FF13 - Never played
FF13 -2 Never played
FF Tactics - Awesome, still play this to this day, along with Disgaea and Ogre Battle

The reason why I was thinking to tone Kefka down a bit was simply because I feel to make a video game to movie adaptation not suck means to rewrite the game for a cinema audience. Of course you have to stay faithful, but stay too faithful and the video game origins become too out there for the cinema audience and they stop following. However, take something too far in its own direction and the game audience shuns it for ignoring the source content.

Having a Jack Nicholson esque Kefka might be TOO crazy for audiences to take seriously. At least at first, I think it'd be something best handled with subtlety. Have him always on edge, like he's doing all he can to keep from screaming like a madman whenever anyone that isn't him is talking. Whenever he does get the chance to do something, he he'd fucking lose it. Like when he encounters Leo he could just go full savage when he kills him. Just laughing and tearing into him in what would be the goriest scene in the film, then from that point on there would be no restraint as he goes from one mad destructive action to another, spitting his lines more than saying them.

It's something that'd take a really great actor to pull off, otherwise it'd just turn out too silly to take seriously. Part of why FFVI is a difficult game to adapt to film, it jumps tone all over the place. It's very likely for one of the goofiest scenes in the game like river rafting with a pun-spitting octopus to be followed almost immediately by the poisoning of an entire castle, then it could be followed by a train getting suplex'd. It's all over the place, which is okay in a game but means death on arrival at a box office.
